About ASO MILL

The renovated studio shop, on the slopes of the active volcano in Kumamoto, Japan

ASO MILL is a 3D printing studio in Kumamoto, Japan. We're located in a little tourist village, amongst the woods of the beautiful Aso volcano region. If you're visiting the area, why not drop by and take a look at the displays of 3D printed models, buildings and costuming items in the studio shop?

Come and visit us to see displays of 3D-printed models and costume items

With over 30 years of experience creating models for wargaming and display purposes, recently we've been using 3D modelling software to produce designs for a variety of sci-fi, fantasy and historical games. 3D printing technology has now advanced (and prices dropped) to a level where great results can be produced on a $230 machine, so we offer our printed models for sale throughout Japan.

We currently have 3 printers available, so please get in touch if you're keen to explore custom product prototyping and design. As the logo says (if you squint!), we are "A 3D MILL" ..... an advanced tech business producing all sorts of fun stuff!

We have a great studio room with free-play spaces for wargaming and crafting (and beer!)

We are proud to be Japan's exclusive licensed print partner for the 3DAlienWorlds brand of historical and sci-fi models. Please take a look at the official website below:

About me

Hi! My name's David, and I bought this old house in the Japanese countryside for about $35,000, on the slopes of the (active) Aso volcano in Kumamoto! This site contains a blog diary of the DIY renovations undertaken to make this broken old house a little more modern and picturesque.

So if you're interested in trying some home DIY in Japan, maybe some of my experiences (both good and bad!) might help you save yourself some time and money?

The day the castle print was finally finished!
